AV industry veteran Sam Taylor’s nonprofit Swim With Purpose was endorsed by Olympian Michael Phelps.
Swim With Purpose, a non-profit co-founded by longtime pro-AV leader Sam Taylor, has been endorsed by Olympic champion Michael Phelps along with the Michael Phelps Foundation, according to a press release.
Established to provide a renovated swimming center at Kentucky State University, an HBCU based in Frankfort, Kentucky, the foundation also aims to provide maintenance and programming for the center.
An avid swimmer who has served as a swimming coach, Taylor most recently served as EVP and COO at Exertis Almo before retiring in June 2023 and was joined in launching the nonprofit by fellow AV veteran Nick Belcore of Peerless AV.
“I, Michael Phelps, support Swim With Purpose’s mission and their efforts to renovate and reopen the aquatic center at KSU, an HBCU,” said Phelps. “It’s wonderful to see people and organizations coming together to make a difference in underserved communities. I hope that Swim With Purpose is able to reach its fundraising goal and that the renovated aquatic center can make a positive impact on the lives of those who benefit from it.”
Phelps also provided a signed swimming cap for a July raffle in support of the foundation.
“Much like the Michael Phelps Foundation, Swim With Purpose is also working towards increasing access to swimming lessons and aquatic programs,” Taylor said in the release. “It’s great to see that there are multiple organizations out there working towards this important goal. By offering access to swimming lessons, we can help promote water safety and confidence in the water, which can ultimately save lives.
“We are also in need of AV equipment that can be used in and around the swim area in the William Exum Center, as well as auctioned as part of additional fundraising efforts,” Taylor added in the release. Those interested in donating equipment can do so by emailing the foundation at info@swimwithpurpose.org.
