The Las Vegas Sphere entertainment venue will launch this Friday, September 29, according to a report in the Hollywood Reporter.

Announced this summer, the $2.3 billion venue can host 20,000 visitors, and its exterior consists of an LED display (dubbed the “exosphere”).

The Sphere’s early lineup is to include “U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere” and “Postcard From Earth,” an exclusive film by Hollywood director Darren Aronofsky, tailored to the unique display capabilities of the venue, which also has a custom-built audio system designed by Holobot.

“It’s a learning process because the technology is new,” Aronofsky said in the report. “Delivering a half-petabyte movie — that’s 500,000 gigabytes — that uses more than 160,000 speakers is mind-boggling.”

“”He’s a very talented director, but we have new cameras that are used for capture,” James Dolan, CEO, said in the report. “He had to learn how to use those cameras, we had to learn how to use those cameras,” Dolan said. “We went all over the world with those cameras, capturing content from all parts of the globe.”

In a press release, the venue also announced that it will feature five supervised guidebots named Aura, which will guide Sphere visitors. A recorded statement by Aura, the robot, is available below.
