Not everyone appreciates collaboration. History is full of stories of the “lone wolf” who overcomes obstacles alone and finds success on his own. But in reality, wolves actually live in cooperative packs and achieve their goals working together. Cory and Michael Osborn, of Osborn Homes, finds teamwork to be a more successful business model for themselves as well.

Osborn, who owns the Nebraska company with his brother Michael, applies this interaction to all aspects of the luxury home-building business, starting with the clients, who usually come with their own ideas of what they want their custom home to look like. However, that’s just the start.

“We put our own twist on all of their ideas. Anyone can copy someone else’s work but our customers appreciate that they have a home that is unique to them, and there are no other homes like it,” Osborn says.

Based in Lincoln, Osborn Homes is on the forefront of the future of luxury residential construction, filling a growing need from residents moving to Nebraska, often attracted by the reasonable property values compared to prices on the coasts. Osborn says he sees many people arrive after having sold their 2,000 square foot homes, then pay cash for a luxury home twice the footage that would retail for $6 or $7 million where they came from.

“I think it’s the beginning of high-end builds in Nebraska. Living in the Midwest has its advantages, primarily the low cost of living. I would say 60% of our clients over the past three to four years have been individuals who are coming from states with exorbitant living costs.”

He and his brother work together in unity. Cory Osborn, who is a Realtor, is the expert in marketing, sales, and business strategy, while Michael is project manager and works to bring designs to life.

“My brother is incredibly gifted in his ability to come up with intricate and functional details that are unique to the home and the clients themselves. It is impressive,” Osborn says. “I’ll go out of town for something and come back to one of our builds and be blown away by how the details turn out. They always have more wow factor in person than through photos.”

The family coordination sets Osborn Homes apart in the crowded landscape of high-end residential construction. Osborn also says their attention to detail leads them to go the extra distance to create the perfect custom home.

“We find one-off unique features that are custom to the home and the client. We scour the ecosystem in construction to do things no one is doing.”

The ethos of trust and post-build care that Osborn Homes emphasize are crucial for the brand. Osborn says building a house can be incredibly stressful for people, and he and his brother work to make that process as simple as possible. They stay in direct contact with the clients at all times, managing expectations, providing photo updates, and making sure all selections are done before building ever starts. This communication doesn’t end when the new homeowners move in, either.

“We look at our clients as life-long partners,” Osborn says. “We want to be there for them throughout the entire ownership of their custom home. We are responsive and provide great customer service throughout the process. We believe this is unique to construction. Construction as a whole is notorious for a lack of customer service and accountability.”

This idea of partnering with the experts goes beyond the Osborn brothers working well with each other and expands to all aspects of building luxury custom homes. This kind of synergy is what sets Osborn Homes apart from other builders. Ideas grow when they are shared, when people like the Osborn brothers are willing to adapt to new ideas and techniques, and they constantly strive to work with the best, Cory Osborn says.

“We find people we like; people who have the highest of standards when it comes to their approach to business and figure out ways to work together. Often, that happens organically. Collaborations in building investment properties, creating incredibly unique designs on single family homes, working together on social media content. Those are all things we have done to collaborate with others.”

In the end, it’s all about the home and the customer for Osborn.

“Everyone deserves to have a home that speaks to their personality and style and we enjoy being able to help them with that,” he says.
