Brazilian singer-songwriter Luísa Sonza chatted about her new music, which includes her album “Escândalo Íntimo.”
Song selection approach for the CD
On the song selection approach for her new album, she said, “I wrote all of the songs along with some partners. The album is a journey through my psyche, split into four blocks.”
Sonza continued, “The first one introduces the lyrical self, where the image of a pop artist becomes an armor, deflecting any kind of deeper relationship. The second reveals a surrender to passion and an intense love story. That’s when things start to change, as troubles start to appear and the break-up at the end of the third block, where I find out the relationship was with myself.”
“In the last few songs, I’m alone again, but now with a new outlook on myself,” she explained. “In other words, preparing this selection of songs and this narrative was very important not only to show vulnerability to the audience, a human being like any other, with my wounds and weaknesses.”
“Also, it is a way to reaffirm my own strength and realize how I’ve grown and matured through this entire experience. And how positive it was to go through all of this and come out stronger in the end,” she added.
Personal favorite song on the album
When asked about her personal favorite song on the album, she said, “I believe that in such an intimate and profound album, all songs inevitably become favorites. But, off the top of my head, I’d say ‘Lança menina,’ which carries this spark of being an authentic artist, referencing the one-of-a-kind Rita Lee.”
Music and songwriting inspirations
On her music and songwriting inspirations, she revealed, “I am inspired by life itself and music as a whole.”
“This new album specifically brought many inspirations and references from Brazilian Popular Music, which I am passionate about,” she acknowledged.
Collaborating with Demi Lovato on ‘Penhasco2’
Sonza opened up about collaborating with Demi Lovato on “Penhasco2.” “It was amazing,” she exclaimed. “Demi is a wonderful person and an admirable professional. We became very close friends and she asked to sing in Portuguese, which is very important for our country’s culture.”
The digital age
On being an artist in the digital age, Sonza said, “It feels incredible and challenging at the same time. Social media helps us a lot to go even farther, reaching people from all over the world faster than ever before, giving us more space and visibility.”
“At the same time, it carries the streaming aspect, where the numbers become so valuable to know how your work is being received,” she admitted.
” At the end of the day, it’s all about finding balance. Understanding the dynamics of the digital age and using it to our advantage, but always conveying music as a form of art,” she added.
Advice for young and aspiring artists
For young and aspiring artists, she encouraged them to “be brave and determined.” “The music industry is a constant battle, especially in today’s digital age. To stand out, it is essential to have focus and determination. Always work on your truth,” she said.
Dream collaboration choices: Doja Cat and Rosalia
Sonza revealed her dream collaboration choices in music. “I would like to collaborate with many artists that I admire, both national and international. I’d love to collaborate with the wonderful Doja Cat and Rosalia,” she said.

On her definition of the word success, Sonza remarked, “Overcoming hardships, daily dedication and, above all, keeping our feet on the ground and always looking ahead.”

Regarding her new album, she stated, “This album is a journey into my subconscious. Fears, anxieties, memories… I turned it all into art, along with my team, and I believe that many people will relate to it.”
“I hope that my work touches people and makes them look deeper into themselves. Especially the younger generation, who has been living under the pressure of today’s world,” she concluded.
