Industrial automation and technology firm Pleora Technologies has partnered with video solutions firm Skoopia to debut an external frame grabber that adds GigE Vision connectivity to Skoopia 21Z30S series block cameras, according to a press release.

Skoopia blocks include 30x and 10x optical zoom without object resolution loss, along with auto-focus. As part of the partnership, blocks can now be integrated with Pleora’s iPORT-SKB-GigE external frame grabber for low-latency video, power, and control signal transmission to existing computer ports using GigE connections over up to 100 meters (328 feet) using Cat5e/6 cabling.

The integration aims to reduce cost, size and power consumption by facilitating the use of small form factor computing platforms, including laptops and embedded devices.

“Building upon our proven block camera interface expertise, our new connectivity solution with Skoopia allows system designers to meet key performance targets for a wide range of machine vision applications,” Jonathan Hou, president at Pleora Technologies, said in the release. “Adding the cabling, networking and multicasting advantages of our GigE Vision interface with the superior image quality and resolution delivered by Skoopia is a winning combination for vision system designers and manufacturers.”

Target use cases include robotics, automated inspection, security and defense.

The integration is available for Skoopia 30x optical zoom 21Z30S, and expanded support is planned in 2024 for Skoopia 10x optical zoom 21Z10S, 21Z36S and global shutter blocks.
