One in three companies will replace employees with AI in 2024, with 53% of companies currently using AI, said respondents to a survey by ResumeBuilder.com, according to a press release and report by Resume Builder.

The survey was commissioned by ResumeBuilder.com and conducted by Pollfish on Nov. 2, 2023.

Respondents included 750 business leaders from companies that currently use AI or plan to use it in 2024.

Among companies currently using AI, 67% use it for customer support, 66% for research, and 61% for creating summaries of meetings or documents.

37% of respondents in this group reported that workers were laid off because of AI in 2023.

44% of companies who use AI or plan to use it in 2024 reported they plan to lay off employees due to AI in that year.

“I’m not surprised by these results, and I hope this article is a wake-up call for anyone rejecting AI in their industry or function,” Julia Toothacre, resume and career strategist at ResumeBuilder, said in the release. “Employees need to find ways to grow their skills and stay relevant in their field if they don’t want their job to be given to AI.”

In that vein, the survey reported that 91% of companies using AI or planning to use it in 2024 will hire in 2024, and 96% of these companies say it will be very or somewhat beneficial for candidates to have experience with AI; 83% said that employees with AI skills will have more job security at their company than employees without AI skills.

The full report has been made available online.
