Electric vehicles are seen by many as the way of the future, and the U.S. is making progress toward embracing them. A key advantage of electric vehicles is regenerative braking, which recovers kinetic energy, typically lost during friction braking as heat, as electricity restored to the on-board battery. To provide the necessary economic nudge, consumers are frequently attracted to the novel features and benefits that electric vehicles provide.
The team at FormRush have performed a new study designed to provide data on the rapidly escalating electric vehicle adoption across the U.S. (to the extent that the total electric vehicle owners now stand at 2,442,300). This means the rate of electric vehicle ownership per 1,000 people stands at 7 (7.18).
Central to these figures is the rate of growth. From 2016 to 2022, there was a 771.3 percent increase in the number of electric cars in the U.S. Furthermore, comparing the years 2021 to 2022, this shows a significant 67.9 percent rise in electric vehicle ownership.
The survey outcomes have been provided to Digital Journal. This reveals the top 10 states outpacing the country in electric vehicle ownership are California, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Colorado, New Jersey, Arizona, Utah and Vermont.
Taking California, the electric vehicle leader, there are 23 electric vehicles per 1,000 people. For the 2021-2022 window, this presents an increase of 60 percent. In second place is Hawaii with 23 electric vehicles per 1,000 people and a 39 percent growth rate.
For third place comes Washington, which is leading the charge in the pacific northwest. Here the rate remains at 14 electric vehicles per 1,000 people and a 39 percent growth rate. While this matches Hawaii, the growth across 2021-2022 is slightly lower at 56 percent.
In fourth place is Oregon with 11 electric vehicles per 1,000 people together with a 2021-2022 increase of 55 percent. In fifth spot is Nevada, which has 10 electric vehicles per 1,000 people. The growth rate between the haves and have-nots is at less than 10 percent.
Bubbling under on the electric vehicle leader board are Colorado, with 10 electric vehicles per 1,000 people and New Jersey, with a similar level. In eighth place is Arizona, where there are 9 electric vehicles per 1,000 people.
In ninth place comes Utah with 9 electric vehicles per 1,000 people and a 70 percent growth rate. The top ten winds up with Vermont which has 9 electric vehicles per 1,000 people and a 56 percent growth rate.
These data seemingly highlight rising national electronic vehicle sales while calling out stand-out states advancing sustainability efforts. This study has been done considering the numerous requests for electric vehicles and the associated growth.
