Actor Brant Daugherty chatted about his new Hallmark movie “Joyeux Noel” with Jaicy Elliot.
New Hallmark film
Jessica Harmon directed from a script written by Brant Daugherty and his wife Kim Daugherty. It was shot partly on location in Rouen, France.
“We were lucky that we were able to film in a beautiful cathedral in Rouen,” he said. “It was a treat, and something that very few people are able to take in. It was lovely, and it looks great on camera.”
“It was incredible to do this movie. My wife and I had written this script back in 2019 in various forms, and I am grateful that Hallmark made it happen,” he said.
In This movie, co-workers travel to a French village to uncover the love story behind a popular painting and discover their own love story in the process. Daugherty stars opposite Jaicy Elliot.
“Jaicy was amazing; she was such a treat to work with,” he said. “We clicked right away. Jaicy is a lot of fun, and she brought fun to the character. I was grateful for the casting choice. I enjoyed working with her a lot.”
Lea (Jaicy Elliot), a copy editor and aspiring journalist, is put on an assignment with co-worker Mark (Daugherty), a seasoned journalist at The Post, to uncover the love story behind the popular Mon Fleur painting.
The pair travels to a small French village to visit the annual Christmas market
where the couple behind the story met – which is said to possess a magic that brings soulmates together.
Mark does not believe in the legend but continues investigating the story with Lea,
curious to find out if it’s true. As Lea and Mark search to uncover the young couple’s love story, they discover something more meaningful.
“We wrote it as a comedy, so hopefully, it is a fun few hours with some characters that you like and spend some time with. It is just as fun to watch as it was to make,” Daugherty said.
‘Dancing with the Stars’
Daugherty also recalled his time on “Dancing with the Stars.” “10 years ago I was on that show,” he reflected. “It was a blast, I had a great time.”
He also fondly remembered the late judge Len Goodman, whom they recently named the Mirrorball trophy after him. “Len’s loss was really unfortunate to hear,” he said. “Len was such a kind and warm man. I really adored Len.”
‘Alone in the Dark’
Daugherty went on to praise actor Chris Bencomo for his acting performance in the Tubi movie “Alone in the Dark,” which he wrote with his wife as well. “Chris delivered a great performance in the film. It took forever to cast that part, but when we got him, he nailed it,” Daugherty said.
“This movie came out great,” he admitted. “I really glad that it premiered at No. 1 on Tubi. It had a really great response; the audience really liked it. I am looking forward to doing many more.”
AI on the future of the entertainment industry
Daugherty shared his thoughts on AI on the future of the business. “I have no interest watching a computer perform,” he said. “As a viewer, I don’t want that and I don’t imagine most people would. Art should be human; there is something about the imperfections that make it perfect. The computer is not the same imperfection. It’s a frightening prospect.”
Personal life
In his personal life, he noted that he and his wife are a few weeks away from having their second baby… and he revealed that it’s going to be another boy. “I am spending some time with my family, which I think is the best place for me to be right now,” he said. “Next year, I am going to hit the ground running with some new projects.”
On the title of the current chapter of his life, he said, “Dad.” “That has been my main focus the last few years. It has been a hard balance trying to navigate a career with a toddler and a wife, but I think we are managing it and we are doing okay,” he said.
Favorite saying to live by
On his favorite motto to live by, he said, “I try to treat people the way that I wish to be treated. That’s how I live my life.”
Success
Regarding his definition of the word success, Daugherty said, “Success means putting food on my family’s table doing what I love; anything beyond that is lovely but not necessary.”
