Clear Channel Outdoor, an outdoor media and advertising firm, has announced that it has secured a ten year deal with the City of Austin to oversee advertising and sponsorship opportunities for Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), according to a press release.
Effictive April 1, 2023, the contract marks 13 years of collaboration between the entities, and it was agreed upon after CCO helped oversee a record-setting year in 2022, which marked the highest advertising revenue for the airport since it began its media program in 2010.
The news comes as airport travel continues to increase, in part buoyed by Fourth of July travel.
TSA data shows a national travel record between June 29 and July 2, with 10.7 million passengers undergoing screenings during the period and with June 30 seeing 2.9 million passengers screened (breaking the record previously set after Thanksgiving 2019).
For AUS airport, factors cited in the travel boom included Formula 1 2022 and SXSW 2023, along with Austin city growth, with 63,000 new residents in Austin Metro from 2021-2022 marking a growth rate of 2.7%.
AUS passenger traffic growth rate was 6.52% in March, 2023 over the previous March.
“Our in-terminal advertising and media program is a source of non-aeronautical revenue that contributes to the financial health of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport,” Mookie Patel, chief business and finance officer at AUS, said in the release. “This contract will generate significant revenue for us to invest into facility and service improvements. We look forward to working with Clear Channel to deliver a dynamic and engaging advertising environment for our passengers.”
“Through our partnership with the City of Austin, Clear Channel will raise the bar transforming Austin-Bergstrom International Airport’s media and sponsorship program,” Morten Gotterup, president at Clear Channel Outdoor, Airports Division, said in the release. “Our industry-leading innovation, experience and design ensure that AUS will be among the best of the best airport media programs for years to come.”
