Musikhaus Thomann, a Germany-based music retailer founded in 1954, has partnered with digital signage player provider Giada in a digital transformation project, according to a case study provided to this publication. The project also involved software developer and POS digitization solutions firm xplace, which supplied integration services.
With 1,700 employees and more than 17 million global customers, Thomann launched a major expansion and digital transformation in 2019. The retailer supplies musical instruments along with AV needs such as lighting and DJ equipment.
The project includes an LED wall in the guitar department measuring approximately 147.8 square feet, along with an identical LED wall in a new hallway leading to the drum department which uses a motion sensor to trigger content. Creative includes videos created by Thomann showing members of the advisory team playing drums. The LED walls are powered by Giada D611 Celeron players, and product application steles are powered by Giada i58 players.
The project also included 12 individually programmable LED strips above product shelves in the drum and brass departments, which are powered by Giada D611 i5 digital signage players, along with digital price tags throughout the retailer.
Thomann uses in-house CMS software BEECEEN to control digital signage systems.

“The use of LED technology now allows us to address customers flexibly and individually,” Florian Rittberger, musician and sales director at Thomann, said in the case study. “This ranges from classic manufacturer promotions and best seller lists of our most popular and best-selling products to video testimonials from well-known influencers from the music industry with whom we work.
“The different lighting moods that we can create by playing different content have met with a very positive response from our customers,” Rittberger added.
“When integrating the display hardware at Thomann, there was a high demand for visual appeal and a uniform appearance,” Johannes Fischer, project manager at xplace, said in the case study. “At the same time, we needed the efficient use of PC hardware in order to be able to play a lot of individual content with one PC, as in the case of the LED displays above the product shelves.”
“We have had very good experiences with Giada’s mini-PCs in terms of quality, value for money and fast availability, even for the smallest quantities,” Matthias Koch, head of product management at xplace, said in the case study. “The Munich-based value-added distributor Concept International distributes Giada PCs in German-speaking countries and has been a reliable and flexible partner for us for 10 years, helping us to always find the right PC for our applications.”
“The digital signage players from Giada are characterized by their slim and compact form factor, high reliability and robustness thanks to their metal enclosure. The manufacturer also offers high product quality,” Martin Polz, sales manager at Concept International, said in the release. “We keep a stock at our headquarters in Munich and also assemble here. This allows us to deliver quickly with tested quality.”
