Philips Professional Display Solutions has partnered with Oral Roberts University (ORU) to provide digital signage in the university’s newly-launched Mike Carter Athletic Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, according to a case study provided this publication by PPDS.
PPDS and ORU also partnered with NWN Carousel, a cloud-based communications firm with an education focus, to develop the on-campus digital signage in an installation executed with a two-day turnaround to accommodate ORU scheduling needs.
The 50,000 square-foot, $15 million facility opted to install Philips D-Line digital displays along with Philips LED 6000 Series L-Line direct view LED displays after seeing PPDS displays in action at the Las Vegas Infocomm 2022 event.
A Christian University with a long tradition in athletics, ORU alumni have played professionally for teams including the Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers.
The installations included:
- Ten 43″ Philips D-Line digital signage displays in the facility’s ground floor sports performance area.
- One 75″ Philips D-Line display in the 2nd floor Academic Center reception area.
- One 16ft x 9ft, 8K+, 1.5 pixel pitch Philips 6000 Series dvLED wall in the Academic Center Team Room, with refresh rates up to 3840 Hz.
“I first met the PPDS team during a day of meetings at InfoComm to try and find a solution that met our needs,” Ron Lee, director of infrastructure and cyber security at ORU, said in the case study. “That’s where the relationship started. The team took the time to show me the construction of these panels, how well designed and how well built they were, and how easily serviceable they would be once installed, thanks to the modular design. I was very impressed with the quality of construction and the design.”
“From day one, PPDS has been fantastic at outlining the key parts of the installation to ensure its success,” Ken Thompson, solutions architect at NWN Carousel, said in the case study. “Having the communication between PPDS, the ORU team and ourselves, made for a seamless deployment.”
“Teamwork on this project was imperative and our great relationships with both NWN Carousel and ORU made this one of the smoothest installations we’ve seen,” Mitch Rosenberg, director of dvLED at PPDS. said in the case study. “We spoke with all teams on multiple occasions before we set foot on site, and by the time we did, we knew exactly where everything was, the mounting hardware had already been installed, so it was a flawless installation. We estimated this project would take around four days, and it took just two. Everything was perfect.”
