Beeline Kazakhstan, a telecom firm and subsidiary of VEON, has announced its deployment of solar-powered radio relay nodes to support its efforts to bring 4G to further areas of low internet connectivity and to bring remote populations online in Kazakhstan, the ninth-largest country by land-mass with one of the lowest population densities, according to a press release.
Two nodes have been installed to date in the Karaganda and Aktobe regions, with 11 more installations planned to be completed by the end of 2024. Each node includes 12 solar panels and produces 4KwH of energy at peak times to support voice and mobile connectivity in villages.
“We are excited to be able to offer a technological solution which is environmentally sustainable and helps us deliver on our strategy of bridging the digital divide between big cities and small remote villages,” Evgeny Nastradin, CEO at Beeline Kazakhstan, said in the release. “With solar-powered connector nodes, we can rely on renewable energy to take our 4G everywhere, which in turn enables our customers to have access to education, financial services and entertainment.”
