Actress Amber Heard chatted about starring in the new thriller “In The Fire,” during a behind-the scenes video shot during the production, prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The film will be released in theaters, On Demand, and on Digital on October 13 via Saban Films.
It was directed by Conor Allyn, from a screenplay by Allyn, Pascal Borno and Silvio Muraglia. It stars Amber Heard, Eduardo Noriega, and Lorenzo McGovern Zaini.
The synopsis is: Grace Burham (played by Amber Heard) is a doctor from New York, who travels to a remote plantation in the 1890s to care for a disturbed boy who seems to have inexplicable abilities.
“My character is a pioneer; she is a doctor at a time when no other women were occupying that field. She is going to thrust into a world that is not her own culture; it is very foreign to her,” she said.
“It is entrenched in deep religious belief and superstition,” she admitted. “Through the course of the story, everything that she understands about the natural world is questioned and challenged. She is put in a situation where she must believe in herself, despite it all, even though everything around her is falling apart.”
Grace begins treating the child, but in doing so ignites a war of science versus religion with the local priest who believes the boy is possessed by the Devil and is the reason for all the village’s woes.
“It is a story that takes place in the late 19th century,” Heard said. “It centers around a doctor who is called to visit a mysterious Hacienda in the middle of rural Columbia to treat an equally mysterious young boy.”
“I wanted to meet this man who was writing these complex, nuanced, strong female characters set in even more nuanced, complex, and interesting stories that I hadn’t read before or seen before,” she added.
“The film is a meditation on the almost supernatural powers of love told through a strong-willed and independent woman at the turn of the 20th century,” Heard said. “I feel honored to be part of this labor of love and to be the lead in Conor Allyn’s vision.”
“I feel lucky to be surrounded by such an amazing cast. They’re as dedicated and magical as the characters they play,” she added.
“It is in many ways a classic thriller or horror film but in so many ways, it is fresh and new. It has been a real challenge and a joy to be a part of it,” Heard concluded.
