Rising actor Andrew Rogers chatted about “A Belgian Chocolate Christmas” and being a part of the comedy series “Aidy Kane (Really Wants You to Love Him).” He also spoke about being a part of the digital age.
‘A Belgian Chocolate Christmas’
The new movie “A Belgian Chocolate Christmas” will be released on Great American Family in July of 2023, as part of “Christmas in July.” “It was great, and a lot of fun,” he admitted.
“I had worked with the director, Maximilian Elfeldt, before, and he was so great. They wanted someone who could speak French and English with a French-Belgian accent. I’m originally from France so it was pretty easy for me to jump right into it, and who doesn’t like chocolate?” he elaborated.
The synopsis is: Photographer takes her best friend’s place at a Belgian culinary school at the holidays and connects with the chocolatier leading the class. As romance begins to bloom, the only problem is a case of mistaken identity.
The movie stars Jaclyn Hales and Zane Stephens. Rogers plays the role of Pieter, a character who sees his very good friend coming with a potential love interest. He wants to make this a perfect date setting for them, and he is very passionate about chocolate. “It was a fun character, who helps the story along, and it was nice to see his passion for chocolate and his friend with someone,” he said.
‘Aidy Kane’ comedy series
“Aide Kane (Really Wants You to Love Him)” was written and directed by showrunner Benjamin Bryant. Rogers plays Laurent. “I loved the dichotomy of Aidy hating my character so much, and Laurent being completely oblivious to it, and seeing him as a friend and a rival,” he said.
“That series was really cool and a lot of fun,” he admitted. “I originally auditioned for Aidy, so I became the French Olympian that is always a step ahead and really loves Aidy and the competition, which infuriates Aidy even more.”
“I wrote all my scenes for ‘Aidy Kane’ and it was great because I got to showcase the French side and the comedic timing,” he said.
“The director, Benjamin, is so nice and a total sweetheart, he loves helping out actors that he knows aren’t getting a fair shot. Benjamin is there to help out in any way he can. He really tries to make things happen and that is such a blessing in this industry,” Rogers said.
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Rogers said, “Expansion.” “My life is about expanding things,” he said. “My goal is to bring a lot of my passion projects to the forefront.”
Working with Lindsay Hartley in a Lifetime film
Rogers shared that he also liked working opposite Lindsay Hartley in the Lifetime film “Deadly Seduction,” which was directed by Tom Shell. “I really liked the role because I start out gentle, sweet, charming, and charismatic… and then, my character’s true colors are revealed,” he said. “As an actor, that was super fun to shoot because I got to showcase a wide range.”
The digital age
On being an actor in the digital age, Rogers said, “It’s up and down. There are some great things about it. The digital age allows more things to be shot, and so many more avenues to be seen on. There are so many more opportunities. On the flip side, we don’t get that many residuals, and that is kind of crazy. The residuals have taken a solid hit.”
“I am so happy that many of the things that I shoot, my family in France is now able to see,” he added.
Success
Regarding his definition of the word success, Rogers said, “Putting out work that you are proud of. I am always happy with work because I always learn something on set, and I am content with that. Also, being able to collaborate with people that I want to work with.”
