In the United States, there are 42 million individuals with disabilities, making up nearly 13 percent of our noninstitutionalized population. Americans with disabilities include those with hearing, vision, walking, cognitive, self-care, and independent living challenges. Providing care and support to people with disabilities not only promotes equality and inclusion but also allows the disabled community a chance to lead fulfilling lives.

Sentry Living Solutions is committed to bringing this vision to life. As a human services brand, the team at Sentry Living Solutions educates, empowers, and offers service to those with intellectual disabilities and their families, ensuring they have the necessary tools and care to reach their full potential.

“Even though our clients are developmentally disabled, they can achieve many things if they have someone to empower them,” says Carlos Clienfuegos, founder of Sentry Living Solutions. “Sometimes people don’t understand how to treat or talk to someone with a disability, but I’ve always worked with clients just like any other person.”

Because disabilities can be very diverse, each client has unique requirements for care and assistance. Fortunately, Sentry Living Solutions offers tailored care and support to meet these special requirements. Below, Cienfuegos breaks down the services SLS provides to help their clients live their own versions of independence.

Independent Living Services

At Sentry Living Solutions, Independent Living Solutions means one thing: helping clients reach the full and independent life of their dreams. This program is based on the idea that disabled individuals can live independently if they learn the correct skills. Working one-on-one with a service provider, a person develops skills such as setting up a household, budgeting, managing money, choosing a roommate, getting along with neighbors, shopping, preparing meals, utilizing public transportation, and more.

“Some achieve this level of independence, and we end up working ourselves out of the job as they become busy with work or school,” Cienfuegos says. “However, others continue to need support throughout their lives. Some may transition to SLS (Supported Living Services), where they live in their own homes, and we provide 24/7 care with personal caregivers.”

Supported Living Services

Supported Living Services (SLS) at Sentry Living Solutions are designed for people who need more assistance in basic life skills to maintain their independence and are tailored to meet clients’ evolving needs. Clients typically need help in areas such as meal preparation, performing routine household activities, locating and scheduling medical care, animal care, selecting and moving into a home, choosing housemates, acquiring furnishings, building and maintaining interpersonal relationships, using emergency services, and more.

“For example, individuals with cerebral palsy, as they age, motor skills become more challenging, so we have to be more hands-on, assisting with feeding, medications, and other caregiving tasks,” Cienfuegos explains. “We operate at the intersection of human services and healthcare.”

Behavioral Services

Sentry Living Solutions’ Behavior Analyst services support individuals and their families experiencing behavioral challenges at home, school, or in the community. The behavior consultation and training services begin with an assessment. The assessment allows the team to identify areas of strength and problem behaviors that prevent individuals from reaching their full potential. They then will create an individualized treatment plan, which may include any or all of their behavior analysis services.

“Our behavior program helps support families and individuals, not by changing the individual’s behavior, but by finding ways to work around it,” says Cienfuegos.
Individuals with disabilities have diverse and specific needs that depend on the nature and severity of their disability. Sentry Living Solutions is committed to determining the best course of action for a client and providing the highest quality of care. The company’s holistic approach and one-on-one services is helping clients achieve the meaningful and independent lifestyle they deserve.
