Filmmaker Ariel Lavi chatted about his latest endeavors in the contemporary entertainment scene.
Daily inspirations as a filmmaker
On his daily inspirations as a filmmaker, director, screenwriter, and producer, he said, “What inspired me is to be better every day, how to move forward each time towards the goal and not stop. I want to break records. My films have already won 117 awards and I feel that I haven’t done enough yet.”
‘Metanoia-Mexico’
He discussed the critical success of the short film “Metanoia-Mexico,” which won 64 awards in the festival circuit.
“The feeling is amazing,” he said. “Producing a film from scratch in a country like Mexico whose mentality and language is completely different from mine is not easy. The film won 64 awards, which is an unusual amount. The key to success was teamwork. I did not believe that we would win this amount.”
The digital age
On being a filmmaker in the digital age, now with streaming, technology and social media being so prevalent, he said, “It has advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that you can network with people from all over the world easily, but on the other hand, it is not easy. I have adapted well to it and I am getting along with the situation.”
Technology in his daily routine
He shared how he uses technology in his daily routine as a filmmaker. “I work on international networking every day. Meet new people in the industry and it’s amazing where you can go and who you can meet,” he said.
AI on the future of the entertainment business
On AI on the future of the entertainment business, he said, “This is a real danger for screenwriters. On the other hand, it is an advantage for the producers who will be able to produce films at very low prices and generate high revenues and thus the profits are large. I personally will adapt to any situation but I prefer movies to be made through human work and not by software.”
Advice for hopefuls in the film industry
For young and aspiring filmmakers, he encouraged them to “believe in themselves.” “Create all the time, and know how to network in order to get to know people in the film industry,” he said.
Future plans
On his future plans, he shared, “To keep making interesting movies. There are some interesting films that I am working on.”
Success
Regarding his definition of the word success, he said, “Success means working in the film industry for me. The key to success is knowing how to create opportunities.”
