The Gagosian art gallery has announced the transfer of “Denominator,” a cuboid digital artwork by visual artist Urs Fischer, from a New York City branch to a location in Beverly Hills, California, according to a press release.

“This collective human experiment—public relations, marketing, advertising, whatever—leads to a complete replacement of any images we have inside us,” Urs Fischer, visual artist, said in the release.

The installation presents shifting images from advertising copy spanning decades from the 1950s to the present, with sources including social media. The images are combined in novel ways thanks to an AI-powered algorithm.

The cube is built from five 2.5mm SNA Displays LED screens from the Bold Interior product family, along with a custom-made steel frame designed to minimize seams. Each cube face measures 11-feet and 10-inches square.

“Denominator provided an interesting design challenge because the artist wanted the cube to ‘float’ one inch above the exhibit floor,” said Jason Helton, EVP at SNA Displays. “This artistic feature made the piece’s dimensions absolutely critical.

“We’re excited for LA-area residents to experience Denominator in person after such a warm reception in New York,” Helton added. “LED-based digital art installations like this are among my favorite because they demonstrate the power, beauty and flexibility of the digital canvas.”
