Singer-songwriter Caleb Polaha chatted about his new single “Mississippi Moon.”

“Mississippi Moon is one of the first songs that I wrote,” he said. “It held a lot of weight in my life back then and continues to do so today. It came to me during a period of longing, where I would try and cling to the fading moments of my childhood and the feelings that go along with that.”

“The moon in the song represents something ephemeral that leaves you begging it to stay as it slowly slips away, and I wanted whoever listened to it to ascribe what or whoever they wanted to that role,” he added.

Songwriting and music inspirations

On his music and songwriting inspirations, he revealed, “My music is inspired by my relationship with God. Songwriting has always been such a spiritual endeavor to me. So much so that sometimes it doesn’t even feel like I’m the one writing the songs.”

“Even though I don’t specifically write worship music, I always find my songs circling back to the love that I find in my relationship with Jesus,” he added.

‘The Whole Night’ short film

He also spoke about being the inspiration of his brother, Micah Max’s short film “The Whole Night.” “It was a genuine honor to be a part of my brother’s film,” he exclaimed.

“Micah Max is one of the most talented people I know, so the fact that he wanted to base an entire film around a song I wrote and an experience that I had was touching,” he said.

“I’m so proud of how the film turned out and so blessed that my song and I could be part of the inspiration for such an amazing project,” he added.

Latest endeavors

He is the son of Hallmark actor Kristoffer Polaha. On his latest endeavors, Caleb shared, “I just moved to Nashville, Tennessee to be a part Belmont University’s songwriting program through the Mike Curb College, and I’ve been blessed to be able to play a few shows at the Fox and Locke and to meet some amazing people in the short time I’ve been here.”

“My plans for the future are to keep making music and putting it out there for people to listen to and enjoy,” he added.

Favorite mottos to live by

On his favorite mottos to live by, Caleb said, “Sing a new song unto the Lord.” “It comes from Psalm 96 and I think, as a musician, that it’s a wonderful reminder that music is something we can use to praise God. It inspires me to continue writing as a form of praise to Him,” he explained.

Superpower of choice

If Caleb were to have any superpower, it would be to “communicate with animals.” “I think it would be pretty fun to talk to my dog,” he admitted.

Closing thoughts on ‘Mississippi Moon’

Caleb concluded about “Mississippi Moon,” “Whether the listener relates to the lyrics, or just likes the way the song sounds, I want people to enjoy the song and to apply it to their lives however they see fit.”
