Pop singer-songwriter little luna chatted about her new music, which includes her single “born for this,” and being a part of the digital age.

‘born for this’ single

On her “born for this” single, she said, “When Ashton Irwin (5 Seconds of Summer) released his solo album, he did an intimate release gathering in which he asked me to lead a guided meditation for everyone.”

“Jordan Greenwald (Lovely the Band) was in attendance. We had met prior through doing yoga with Ashton, but ended up chatting about music and life that night. Jordan has the best soul, we kept in touch (no surprise, as Ashton surrounds himself with wonderful humans) and a few months ago decided to make a song of our own.”

“The song was co-written and produced by Jordan, and truly flowed out of us, after each sharing about our pasts (specifically mine) as a kid navigating the entertainment industry. I hope it encourages our listeners to seek out the life they felt they were meant to have… no matter how glorious, and therefore scary, it may seem,” she elaborated.

Music and songwriting inspirations

On her music and songwriting inspirations, she said, ” My vast need for figuring myself out. A lot of my songs are seeds from poems I’ve written, many of which are inspired by the journey I’m on right now of re-discovering my truest self.”

“Visually and culturally, I draw inspiration from the late 60s early 70s (I even drive a 1966 Pearl White Mustang) and from being in nature. Sonically, I grew up listening to a variety of music, most notably inspired by Etta James, Fleetwood Mac, and Enya,” she explained.

Future plans

Regarding her future plans, she shared, “This year I have committed to myself, and to my fans, to release a song every six weeks (a daunting task for a self funded independent artist, but I am starry eyed at the opportunity to hopefully be exposed to more people this way).”

“Every song to be released is weaving a story to a greater narrative that will be revealed next year. This January I sold out my first headlining show, in Los Angeles, in which I debuted my EP ‘the wildflower woman.’ I am so excited to be able to continue to play live, next up being my first ever festival show this May,” she said.

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, little luna said, “Three years ago, I changed my career and therefore my life, and started writing and creating the music I always told my younger self I one day would.”

“So, quite frankly, it feels ‘normal’ because I’ve never been an artist in any other time,” she admitted. “At least not in this life. That said, on an emotional level it’s somedays rewarding and somedays exhausting.”

“My greatest dream is to be able to grow my fanbase enough that I am able to tour consistently, and focus more of my time and attention just on the shows, and the fans. I have so many ideas up my sleeve about future events that involve lots of interactions with the wonderful humans out there who support me,” she elaborated.

“We’re in a digital age but I doubt anything will ever compare to the sensation of live music, and that’s the community I am working to find,” she added.

Dream duet choices in music

little luna listed Stevie Nicks, 5 Seconds of Summer, Florence and the Machine, and Kendall Schmidt of Big Time Rush as her dream duet choices in music.

Kendall Schmidt of Big Time Rush

Speaking of Kendall Schmidt, she had great words about the Big Time Rush band member. “Knowing Kendall is like knowing the part of a park that has the perfect amount of sunshine and shade on a hot summer day,” she said.

“Kendall’s genuine kindness is contagious and his laid back personality is such a refreshing treat to be around. He already knows the song I want us to duet in the future,” she said.

“In the meantime, his wife requested we sing ‘What’s Up?’ by 4 Non Blondes at their wedding, and I’m sure that video is circulating somewhere,” she added.

Advice for young and aspiring artists

For young and aspiring artists, she said, “You don’t need someone else’s permission to make the art you want to make.”

“You might have to work multiple jobs to get it up and going, but don’t sacrifice your vision just to make what other people may want you to create. Also, listen to ‘born for this,’ it expresses this sentiment further,” she explained.

Success

On her definition of the word success, she said, “Success, to me, right now means two things. One is being able to quit my side hustles (As an artist, I’ve always had two to four jobs at a time since I was 18) and financially be able to live well off of my music and it’s side ventures.”

“The other is being able to be fully myself in the world, no longer a people pleaser. Luckily my music is helping me cultivate that,” she acknowledged.

Closing thoughts on her new music

For her fans, she remarked about her new music, “For every song of mine, I create a yoga flow that goes to the exact length of the song (you can find these on my YouTube channel).”

“I’ve been guiding yoga and meditation for seven plus years, and my practices have brought so much peace to my mind, and understanding of self and how I operate in the world to my heart,” she said.

“I hope my music makes you scream joyously out open windows, flow mindfully through your practices, and cry deeply as you accept the vulnerability of being your truest self. I love you and I’m rooting for you,” she concluded.
